The Past
Koren's writing experience spans 14
years, including work as a newspaper reporter
and editor, technical
writer, columnist,
copy editor/page designer,
copywriter and writing
coach. She started in 1991 as a technical
writer for a California data center and, thanks to a
handful of freelance assignments, later switched to
newspaper reporting (less pay, but more in line with her
life goals). In 1996, she began writing and copy
editing for two weekly newspapers (Mountain
News and Crestline-Courier, owned by
BCI) and within two years moved up to a daily metro
paper (The San Bernardino County Sun). She
served five years with The Sun, starting as a
correspondent and eventually promoting to
assistant city editor. Along the way, she wrote
freelance for magazines (Real Woman,
Mushing, Mountain Explorer, Inland
Empire, Cat Fancy, The Bark and
more), news wires (American News Service, Environment
News Service), and Web sites (iParenting.com and ForestWorld.com).
She is a former assistant editor for iParenting.com,
where she managed content for four parenting Web sites.
Recently, she's written for Shape, Fit
Pregnancy and Fit.Style, and is a frequent
contributor to Pregnancy and Women's Health
& Fitness. |
The Future
In July 2003, Koren embarked on what she hopes
will be a long and successful full-time freelance
career. Her current specialties include health, fitness,
psychology and relationships. These
fit naturally with her interests and lifestyle:
she's a wife and mother who runs, hikes, cycles, trains
with weights and practices Karate.
Along with freelance feature writing, Koren also
offers freelance copywriting, editing and coaching
(writing instruction) services.
Her goal is to reach an ever-widening audience
with stories that inform, inspire and instill hope.
With Koren you can count on a pleasant, professional
work relationship and quality copy on
time...every time.
