In December 1999,
Koren developed and designed the DISPATCH, an eight-page
newsletter, for Crest Forest Fire Protection District in
Southern California. The newsletter features department,
district, and industry news along with fire family stories and
a children's page.
Readers
include district employees and their families, retired
employees, community members, and officers of neighboring fire
districts.
Koren served as editor, lead writer,
photographer and designer through August 2002. The newsletter
now continues under the direction of district media personnel.
A few
words regarding the DISPATCH:
"Koren Wetmore has conceptualized, developed, written
and published our fire department newsletter, the DISPATCH. It
is done professionally, holds itself to issues that are of
importance to the department, and is a significant
communications tool for all levels within the department.
The initiative, imagination, skill, and dedication to
the goals she has set for the newsletter are displayed
throughout her product. She has created a
publication that appeals to a wide audience: management,
staff, professional firefighter, volunteer firefighter and
their families.
Her instinctive ability to identify
her target audience and write to it in such an
entertaining and informative style is impressive; and in
our case it is often a matter of writing on technical issues
in a manner that the average layperson can understand and
appreciate. She does this with a product that is visually
appealing as well as informative.”
